kelly oubre jr

Hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, Kelly Oubre Jr. is one of the NBA's newest stars and an emerging style icon. After a successful tenure playing for the renowned University of Kansas basketball team, Oubre Jr. was selected as a first-round draft pick for the NBA in 2015. Now in his fifth season, he is part of the Phoenix Suns' formidable starting lineup. Beyond a rich array of athletic skills, Oubre Jr. has also earned immense recognition for his personal style - an authentic identification, as he has never worked with a professional stylist. His stadium tunnel ensembles and everyday outfits have landed him on a variety of lists, including Sports Illustrated's "Fashionable 50" and Slam Magazine’s "League Fits All-Drip First Team." In 2018, GQ dubbed Oubre Jr. as "A new Breed of NBA Style Icon." Beyond the accolades, he has also served as an ambassador for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) as well as a fashion intern at Esquire. In 2019, Oubre Jr. signed an unprecedented deal with Converse as the face of the brand’s re-emergence into the basketball scene. Through this partnership, he was given the opportunity to further explore his passions as a designer as well as all-around creative. As a child, Oubre and his family were forced to relocate due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina, but he has remained true to his New Orleans roots and continues to draw inspiration from his upbringing there. Today, his desire and ability to move style culture forward extends beyond tunnels and runways, culminating in a dedication to supporting the arts. During his tenure in Washington D.C., he worked closely with Duke Ellington School of the Arts, becoming an avid supporter of their "Black Boys Rock the Arts" program. For this initiative, he regularly spent his afternoons with talented students, participating in a range of curriculums from music to illustration alongside them. Additionally, Oubre Jr. has placed emphasis on advocating for education, having provided more than 30 scholarships to high school students across the country. Though he plays a singular position on his NBA team, Oubre Jr. has already proven to be an all-arounder at these beginning stages of his career. His enthusiasm and impact both on and off the court will continue to resonate for many years to come.
